The Autumn Sunset™ Encore® Azalea has bright red-orange 2.5 inch flowers that bloom spring through fall and will remind you of a beautiful, brilliant sunset. Compact form fits into any landscape. Works well in containers, as an accent or as foundation plantings. This broadleaf evergreen also makes a superior compact hedge, providing four seasons of color. Requires shade only in the hottest areas. Plant high to promote good drainage. Don’t allow the soil to become dry until established. Azaleas perform best in acidic soil, which can be amended with chelated iron if necessary. Prune only to shape after the first bloom period in spring. Fertilize in late winter or early spring to give the upcoming blooms a boost. This plant tolerates more sun than most other azaleas. When establishing a hedge, plant 3.5 to 4 feet apart, center to center. Plant 5 to 6 feet apart, center to center, for a shrub border or as foundation plantings.
